Public Health Research Programme webinar

Date: 20 September, 9:30 - 11:45 pm Booking: register a place

The webinar will cover:

  • Introduction to the PHR programme - Dr Andrew Cook (Consultant Adviser, PHR) and Mrs Gemma House (Senior Research Manager (Funding), PHR);

  • Key messages from the PHR Research Funding Board Chair - Prof Frank Kee

  • What makes a good PHR application – Prof Chris Owen (current award holder and Funding Board Member);

  • What support RDS can provide – Dr Peter Lovell (Deputy Director, RDS London);

  • Q&A session with the panel

RDSEM NIHR Fellowship Workshop – Filling inthe Application Form

Date: 17 October, 9:30 - 16:00 pm Venue: Vaughan Parry Williams Pavilion, University of Nottingham, NG7 2PS Booking: book a place

Who should attend? Those planning to apply for an NIHR Fellowship. What is covered? This will be an interactive workshop where you will have an opportunity to think about how you will complete the application form, and the sort of information you will need to provide the funder. Presenter - This session will be led by Prof Andrew Derrington, Author of the research funding toolkit

RDSEM Application Workshop - how to become a fundable researcher!

Date:30 October, 9:00 - 16:00 pm Venue: Diabetes Research centre, Leicester General Hospital, Leicester, LE5 4PW Booking: book a place

Who should attend? First time or inexperienced applicants for NIHR funding, either as lead or co-applicant, and researchers requiring a refresh on the application process. What is covered? Insights into what funders are looking for and how you can address these in key sections of the application form. This includes persuading funders that:

  • your question is important

  • you have the right clinical and methodological expertise in your team to answer the question

  • you have the right level of patient and public involvement

  • your Plain English Summary is …… well, plain English!

What format does it take? A mixture of presentations, examples and activities to help you apply the insights to your own application. Refreshments and lunch is supplied. Fabulous opportunity for researchers to meet the new chair of our regional Research for Patient Benefit panel Neil Coulson and hear about the funding stream's focus and direction of the panel.

RDSEM Funder Focus Seminar - featuring Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) and Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC)

Date:7 November, 10:00 - 12:00noon Venue: Holywell Park, Ashby Rd, Loughborough, LE11 3GR Booking: event is free, book a place

  • Live stream talk from AMRC

  • Q&A panel discussion
