joining the library
As long as you are eligible for membership to the library, the process to join is very simple. We just need to see some identification that proves your eligibility, such as a Trust or University ID badge. Then it's a simple case of completing a membership form (these can be found at the bottom of the page.) Once you are on our system, you can borrow items straight away.
The libraries are open 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, and we are staffed between 8am - 7pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) at Derby and between 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am - 4pm on a Friday at Burton.
If you have not got a staff door card, you may be able to get a 24 hour swipe card from us for a refundable deposit of £10. Please speak to a member of staff to check whether you are eligible for this card.
Am I Eligible to Join the Library?
Membership is available to all University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust staff. If you are working in one of our hospitals but are not employed by the Trust, it may still be possible for you to join. We have membership schemes in place with staff groups that allow access to our resources e.g. GPs, Ambulance staff, and Community Health, so please ask a member of staff if you are unsure.
University of Nottingham and University of Leicester staff and students who are based in Derby or Burton are entitled to full membership. Students from other institutions can also join, providing they are on a current placement within the Trust.
If you do not meet any of the above criteria, it is worth asking a member of staff if you can join, as our eligibility list is quite extensive! However, if you are not allowed to join and borrow, you may still be allowed to use either library and its resources and facilities.
