Access to OUR LibrarIES
At the Derby site, the Library is located on Level 2 of the Education Centre, close to the Medical School. A link corridor leads into the Education Centre from Level 2 of the main hospital buildings, where there is lift access. External access is suitable for wheelchairs. Please ring the doorbell if you need assistance to open the library doors.
At the Burton site, the Library is located on the ground floor of the Medical Education Centre on the Outwoods site of Queen's Hospital.
Both libraries have wheelchair accessible toilet facilities. Assistance dogs are also welcome.
Individual Library Induction and Assistance
The library staff are happy to provide a one-to-one Library induction for readers and also give advice and guidance on Library resources. For further information, please ask at the issue desk, or get in touch with us via the contact page.
The Library staff are on hand to give any assistance required, and are present between the hours of 8 am till 7 pm, Monday to Friday at the Derby site and 8.30 am till 4.30 pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.30 am till 4 pm on a Friday at the Burton site.
If you have difficulty with locating books, such as mobility issues or problems reading the classmarks, our staff will happily locate items for you. We will also undertake any photocopying for you, simply ask at the library counter.
Most of the library collection can be renewed over the phone or online via the online library system. If you are having difficulty returning your items to us, please contact a member of the Library staff.
If you have a visual impairment, magnifying screens and glasses are available to assist you when working in the Library at the Derby site. The hospital website uses "Browsealoud". BrowseAloud has many features to assist those with dyslexia, literacy difficulties, mild visual impairments. You can access this by clicking the orange "b" icon in the top right hand corner of the hospital website (www.uhdb.nhs.uk)

Most institutions provide extra assistance where a student has a special educational need or extra requirements to their learning. Although we are not an academic library, we will strive to work with our student members who need extra assistance, to provide the best experience when using our library.
